Stone Mountain, GA
November, 2018 I was given the opportunity to travel to Stone Mountain, GA and meet up with my friend Kerry. I spent 4 days there and please be advised that fall in Georgia does not disappoint! It is absolutely stunning.
Stone Mountain, GA is a completely gated off town which is very unique. I stayed at Atlanta Evergreen Marriott Conference Resort and it was gorgeous. Additionally, since this resort is more pricey, they also offer lodging at Stone Mountain Inn and camping. These options can be found here.
Of course the biggest headline of “Stone Mountain, GA” is the literal “Stone Mountain.” You can even take a Skyride up to the top, which is of course what we did! This skyride holds around 30 people.
You can buy a skyride ticket for $15.00, but it is completely worth it. The $15.00 includes your travel up and down the mountain and additionally you are allowed to stay at the top of the mountain as long as you like. You are also given the option to hike up and down the mountain free of charge, but be warned it is not a hike for everyone! It is long and steep but is an option I would love to do if I come to visit again in the warmer seasons.
There is a new skyride available every 20 minutes so no need to worry about long waiting times. The views are incredible at the top and they even serve food, drinks, and have a gift shop.
Additional events besides the skyride they offer are movie nights. This includes projecting the movie on the stone itself! They also have a variety of Holidays events and fireworks. These events are shown here.
Besides this insanely awesome Mountain Top, Stone Mountain, GA also has really charming outdoor walking paths/hiking.
It’s truly amazing how no matter where you go you can always catch a glimpse of the mountain top.
Stone Mountain, GA is about a 30-40 minute drive from Atlanta, GA so of course we wanted to explore the town. We decided to head over to the Georgia Aquarium.
If you’re not an aquarium person they also had the World of Coca-Cola only a few feet away!
Fun fact: The Georgia Aquarium is one of the largest Aquariums in the world.
The aquarium is open from 10:00am – 9:00pm on most days which gives plenty of flexibility for visiting. Make sure to review their live show schedule a head of time to completely take advantage of seeing adorable performances by seals, dolphins, penguin feedings, and so much more!
After the aquarium we walked over to the huge Ferris Wheel right in the middle of Atlanta. The child in me was beyond excited to ride. The Ferris Wheel itself is called SkyView Atlanta. For adults the price is $13.89 + tax and children are $9.26 + tax (Additional prices listed on their site).
Each Gondola on the Ferris Wheel can hold up to 6 people and are temperature controlled. So even if it’s freezing outside you’ll still be warm! There are also different packages you can order. Such as a VIP package which lets you skip the line and gives you an extended ride time.
We didn’t end up doing the VIP package but if you head over to Groupon.com there is a top selling SkyView Deal! We bought the “Ferris Wheel Date Night Package for Two with Chocolates” for $25.00 which is usually $37.00. This package included our tickets for a 15 minute ride and a decently sized box of chocolates, so yummy!
I hope this was helpful and gave a little taste of Stone Mountain, GA. It is extremely family friendly and I would highly recommend!
Let me know your thoughts and/or give suggestions of other great places to try and I’ll add it to my blog bucket list!
With so much love,
Chelsea
